MISSION STATEMENT

Thank you for your interest in rescuing a Great Dane.

We have no Available Dogs right now, other Rescue organizations:

If you are interested in forwarding some information about yourself, your family, your "dog related" experience, your experience with large breed dogs, your reason(s) for wanting a Great Dane and two references (your vet, your trainer, previous breeders that you have obtained a dog from, etc), I would be happy to discuss adoption requirements in more detail.

Our adoption Application is available HERE.

For your general information...

  • we do thoroughly screen adopting families prior to placement
  • we do require a fully fenced back yard
  • if you rent we require a written letter from your landlord giving permission to house a giant breed dog
  • all animals placed for adoption are neutered/spayed...NO EXCEPTIONS
  • we do require a $350.00 adoption fee as we run this program wholly through donations
  • we only deal with pure bred Great Danes but no papers are given with adoptions.

Thank-you once again. Should you wish to discuss obtaining an older breeder placement Great Dane, a retired show dog, or a general breeder placement (puppy who did not turn out as a show prospect, etc) please feel free to contact the club by emailing greatdanes@shaw.ca

The Western Great Dane Club of British Columbia Rescue Program was established to:

  • rescue purebred Great Danes that have been abused, abandoned or surrendered and place them in a permanent, nurturing environment with the capabilities of:
    - assessing both the mental and physical state of each animal in order to place them in the best home possible,
    - ensuring that each animal receives appropriate medical care in order to provide adoptive families with the healthiest pet possible,
    - ensuring that each animal is spayed/neutered prior to being placed with an adoptive family,
    -  providing a safe environment during the animal’s transition between homes.
  • establish a communication system in order to effectively liaison with veterinarians, animal shelters, breeders and other rescue organizations.
  • develop an informational package for the general public outlining the benefits of:
    -  proper nutrition for a large breed dog,
    - appropriate health testing and ongoing medical follow-up,
    - dealing with a reputable breeder or recognized rescue organization.
  • develop, implement and strictly adhere to a screening process for potential adopting families
